[0.0s] previously on Dumbgeons and Dragons. [30.0s] we're gonna open them out like the Wizards of Thay. [32.0s] there's a couple guys stationed or they were last stationed at Xanthels Tower. [36.0s] you're gonna find Naer Gotht Blade Lord, Jorgen Pawl, Iskander. [39.9s] he's there too. [40.9s] they don't want Tiamat to come back, they want power for themselves. [43.4s] you guys got shrunk down. [44.4s] a whole bunch of tiny frogs are coming out for the sock. [50.6s] and you fly towards Gransys as he's just ducking in and you see his head kind [55.5s] of poke back out. [56.8s] Squish him! [58.1s] Grants us looks over to us like, [59.8s] I was right. [60.9s] These were the grunts that I accidentally shrunk. [63.7s] I've been talking to their head honcho here [65.7s] and he seems to think that we can settle the differences. [69.9s] There's apparently also something else that I, [72.8s] I'm still not a hundred percent sure what it is. [74.7s] Shut up, what do we have to fight? [76.4s] I don't know. [77.3s] I'd love some sort of weapon [78.9s] if we're fighting something. [80.2s] They're gonna give us some weapons. [82.5s] They lead you to what looks like [85.7s] an open coliseum or arena [88.7s] and they push all five of you through this door [91.6s] and the big gate slammed shut [93.5s] and stepping out is a giant white sock dragon. [98.8s] That's my sock! [100.2s] And it lets out a moaning, dry bellow. [104.9s] So they're gonna let us go. [106.9s] I just have to make sure that I get them back [109.0s] to where they came from. [110.3s] So you guys have drinks and you rest. [112.5s] The next day you are called upon by Leosin [116.6s] and he leads you to where the council [119.7s] is having their meeting and he opens the door [122.5s] and you see the entire council chamber [125.4s] barking and yelling at each other. [127.9s] It's mayhem and chaos. [131.9s] Welcome to Dumbgeons and Dragons. [134.2s] We are a D&D fifth edition actual play podcast. [137.3s] I am your dungeon master, Russ More [139.2s] and with me today is Tom Laird. [141.4s] Whoa, surprise order, that's me. [143.5s] I play FlinkFirebeard. [145.0s] And Carla Johnson. [146.6s] Hey, how's it going? [147.6s] I play new Laura Moonbrook. [149.1s] And Amy More. [150.5s] Yes, I am. [151.4s] I play Thea Amastasia. [153.3s] Welcome, everybody. [154.5s] Thanks for having us, Russ. [156.3s] Thanks for being on the show. [157.9s] Happy to be here. [159.2s] Thanks for picking up that Skype call. [162.6s] I really appreciate it. [163.5s] Even though it's Tom's birthday, [165.2s] wish everybody Tom, wish everybody Tom birthday. [170.7s] I would like to wish all the listeners. [172.9s] Everybody birthday happy. [174.5s] Hashtag wish everybody a Tom birthday. [178.2s] Happy birthday, Tom. [179.2s] Happy birthday. [180.1s] Happy birthday, Tom. [181.1s] Way to celebrate it with our 30th episode. [184.5s] Yeah. [185.7s] Tom, you're turning 30, right? [188.2s] Sure, we'll go with that. [190.2s] I'm sure there's a three in it. [191.9s] It does start with a three. [193.5s] There you go. [194.3s] Nailed it. [195.1s] Yeah, well then we're good, solid. [197.2s] So Patreon, you get an episode dedicated to you. [200.3s] Like today, our episode dedication is to Gabriel Lynch. [205.3s] Hey, Gabe. [206.4s] Thank you, Gabriel. [207.3s] Thank you, Gabriel. [208.5s] Thanks, Gabriel. [209.3s] For supporting the podcast. [210.9s] We really appreciate you, [212.1s] as well as all the other amazing people out there. [215.4s] All right, fuck it. [216.2s] Let's play D&D. [219.1s] He's second week in a row. [220.9s] He is feisty. [222.1s] That's it now. [222.9s] That is how we start a game. [224.5s] I like it. [225.7s] It's aggressive. [227.5s] It's final. [229.0s] We're not fucking around anymore. [230.2s] No more Chitter-Chatter. [231.6s] Except now we're gonna get into all the Chitter-Chatter. [235.5s] Welcome to the council session [237.7s] where we talk for two hours. [239.8s] Oh, shit. [240.7s] I just heard everyone turn off the podcast [243.0s] simultaneously. [243.9s] Oh, come on. [244.7s] This is gonna be much better than episode two. [246.9s] Yep, they've already swiped left [248.7s] and that little delete option [250.9s] is just hovering right there. [251.7s] Tune in to the very end [252.8s] when we all compliment each other a whole lot. [255.2s] I'm gonna listen to it at the very end, though. [258.6s] None of this skipping through stuff. [260.5s] Yeah. [262.8s] There will be a quiz. [264.2s] There will be a quiz. [267.0s] You enter the council chamber [269.5s] and unlike the last time you were here [272.1s] where there was quiet and order, [275.5s] the entire room seems to be erupting [278.7s] in argument and chaos. [281.9s] You hear much heated discussion [284.6s] about the death or suicide [286.9s] of an aide from Neverwinter [289.1s] who, Leosin mentioned, [290.7s] had been reported as having hanged himself. [295.1s] You see and hear an argument [297.0s] between who you remember as Delaine Winterhound [300.6s] of the Emerald Enclave [302.3s] and King Melandrech, [304.3s] the Elven King of the Misty Forest, [306.8s] who is waving off concerns from Delaine [310.3s] about dragon attacks in the Misty Forest [312.7s] saying the elves have increased their patrols [314.9s] and fortified their positions. [318.1s] During all of this, [319.3s] you see Lady Leral Silverhand [322.5s] quietly observing the room [324.1s] from the head of the council table. [327.2s] And then from behind you, [329.0s] you hear the heavyset footsteps [331.6s] of Lord Dagult Neverember [333.3s] as he strides past you [335.1s] in followed by a human woman [337.7s] who is very well dressed in silver robes. [341.9s] You feel drawn to her presence [343.7s] even more than the regal Lord Neverember, [346.7s] but you do not recognize her [348.3s] from the previous council session. [351.1s] Lord Neverember sits at Lady Silverhand's right [354.2s] and the woman following him sits beside him. [357.7s] You enter the room further [358.9s] and catch the eye of Lady Silverhand [361.1s] who calmly says above no more [363.9s] than a quiet conversation level, [366.7s] council is in session. [369.5s] Be seated. [371.7s] Everyone quiets in the room [375.2s] and goes to their seat. [377.4s] There are four open seats [378.9s] between Delaine Winterhound and Anthar Froome [382.1s] who sees you hesitating by the door [384.2s] and calls you over. [385.9s] Come on now, you're as much a part of this as any of us. [388.2s] Sit down and let's begin. [390.6s] Yes, sir. [391.5s] I stride over and I take a seat beside Anthar. [395.4s] Yeah, of course, yeah, I just go sit down. [397.0s] Yeah, yeah, yeah, just go and sit down. [399.4s] Frances says, [400.3s] so, okay, yeah, let's go sit down there, okay, yeah. [402.8s] Oh boy. [403.6s] I thought we ditched him. [404.5s] I looked behind me and I was like, [405.3s] have you been here the whole time? [407.2s] Frances is still with you. [409.5s] So tired all of a sudden. [412.4s] Frances pulls up a chair [413.8s] and scoots really close to Nulara [416.5s] and says, oh, what do you think is gonna go on here? [420.9s] Shh, just be quiet, please. [425.7s] Everybody kind of, oh, yeah, okay. [429.5s] It's been a while since I've been one of these. [430.7s] I just don't remember how it goes. [432.6s] Everybody kind of looks over in his general direction. [435.9s] He's like, okay, sorry, yep. [438.7s] As everybody's seated and settles in, [441.3s] Lady Silverhand says, [444.3s] ladies and gentlemen, we have much to discuss [448.1s] and not much time to discuss it, unfortunately. [451.2s] Our goal here today is to learn what we can [454.7s] from our deputized investigators, [457.5s] what they have learned and gained. [460.7s] Second is to hear what is occurring in our various regions [465.1s] and determine the correct course of action moving forward. [470.1s] Flint, Thea, Nulara and Grancis, [473.1s] what can you tell the council of your findings? [476.8s] Oh, wow, Grancis is a part, he's, we are. [480.1s] He has been assigned to you. [481.9s] We are. [483.1s] No one else wanted him. [485.4s] I'm part of the team. [488.6s] Oh, nobody's gonna jump in, I'll jump in. [490.3s] What do you got? [491.7s] Thea tries to just squash the feeling [493.8s] of like really being trapped, like shackled to this man. [500.7s] I'm really torn between just letting him talk [502.9s] because I kind of want that to happen. [505.3s] Yeah, me too. [507.9s] Yeah, I say, I'm sorry, can you repeat the question? [511.4s] I completely blacked out after the part [513.1s] that you said that we're all together. [514.4s] Since the last council meeting, [517.9s] tell us of your findings. [519.4s] Tell us of what you have found, your adventures [522.8s] and where you come today. [525.1s] It has taken you a little bit longer [526.8s] than we had anticipated. [528.7s] So something must have gone on. [531.6s] Shit, he's making us recap, bitches. [535.1s] It's the beginning of the year in episode 30. [538.3s] God damn it. [539.6s] And there's a song. [541.8s] Let's start at the end. [544.3s] We captured Ver'Am the White [546.6s] and we've brought him here to you. [549.5s] Oh, we're Quentin Tarantino-ing this bitch, I get it. [554.1s] Who's Quentin Tarantino? [556.8s] He works down the street. [557.9s] He starts at the end of his stories all the time [560.2s] and works backwards. [561.6s] Interesting. [562.8s] Yes, Ver'Am, he has been in interrogation [565.1s] and he has told us some surprising things [568.5s] about the cult. [569.8s] How much do you believe what he says? [573.1s] What did he say? [574.7s] We really didn't get a chance to thoroughly talk with him [578.7s] as we brought him straight to you. [580.7s] He told us that you had a thorough conversation [583.6s] about the goings on of the locations [586.9s] of the Cult of the Dragon [588.7s] and various people who may be swayed to our cause. [592.4s] They have the Drakorn. [593.7s] Remember, that's why we left, [595.2s] originally was to go searching to see about that. [600.2s] Yes. [601.7s] They got it. [602.9s] They wanna use it. [604.0s] So no surprise there, [608.2s] I guess, just confirming what we all suspected. [612.9s] The wizards of Fae are going to cast a spell [616.4s] that we'll call Tiamat. [618.0s] There are people within their organization [621.4s] who can be swayed. [623.7s] They are, I have a list of things here. [627.8s] They are in Xanthal's Tower, [632.1s] Nargoth, Bladelord, Jorgen Paul, Iskander. [636.5s] These sound like people [637.6s] I've definitely heard of before. [639.3s] And who are these people [643.0s] in relation to how the cult is run? [646.3s] These are groups that are helping [647.5s] the Cult of the Dragon, I believe. [649.3s] I believe Bladelord fears that Severin [653.7s] will succeed in his plan [655.1s] and Tiamat will end up destroying the cult. [657.0s] And so he definitely doesn't want that. [659.0s] He could be convinced to work on our side. [664.9s] He wants to bring back the, [666.5s] this is what it looks like my notes say, [668.3s] Draco Bitches, but I bet it says Draco Liches. [672.2s] Probably liches, not bitches. [674.9s] Is that Jorgen? [676.2s] That is Nargoth. [678.1s] Yes, the Draco Bitches. [679.5s] I haven't heard of them, but the Draco Liches, yes. [682.5s] Then I wrote some hippogriffs [683.7s] and that was the most exciting thing that happened. [685.9s] So I have no further memories. [688.3s] Oh, that was the big Harry Potter episode. [690.4s] I remember that one. [691.3s] We hear that you have swayed [693.2s] the Arcane Brotherhood to our cause. [696.8s] I didn't really think it took much swaying. [699.5s] Yeah, they're on board for helping. [701.5s] They are a great asset. [703.1s] How did you go about bringing them onto our side? [708.3s] We returned Macoth from her icy prison [712.9s] and they seemed pretty amiable after that. [716.7s] Icy prison, where was she being held? [719.5s] She was the prisoner of the ice dragon, [723.0s] whose name is? [724.3s] Aruthator. Aruthator. [726.3s] There it is. Or agruthator. [729.1s] Yeah. Or, [730.6s] all variations of those words. [733.0s] Yes. Of course, of course. [734.5s] And what of Aruthator? [737.5s] As he is known to have dealt with the cult of the dragon. [741.0s] Yes, he's the one who sold them the Dracorn. [744.2s] Interesting. [745.3s] And he is studying magical tomes, right? [750.9s] To become- [751.8s] He's wanting, yeah, [753.1s] he's wanting to procure his own magic and spells. [758.8s] And so Macoth was there helping, [762.0s] translating with all the books [764.1s] from the Arcane Brotherhood. [766.1s] You see Heads nod around the room [768.8s] and to your left, Anthar kind of grunts, [772.3s] and he's like, you know, the Arcane Brotherhood, [775.8s] I seem to be the only one here [777.3s] who doesn't think this is a good idea, [779.0s] but they've been known to harbor some evil, [781.2s] evil wizard types. [784.1s] Oh, oh, oh, what's that damn elf wizard bitch's name? [790.7s] Is that- [791.5s] Primsbane. Primsbane? [793.9s] Oh, fucker. [795.8s] Was he part of the- [797.9s] You don't know. [798.8s] Oh, well, I will ask. [801.5s] Does the name Thelonious Primsbane [803.8s] mean anything to any of you? [806.0s] You see a look of not much recollection [809.8s] among anybody in the room. [811.3s] Well, he's like a little bit of a loose end. [813.8s] He kind of, he's kind of after us a little bit. [819.6s] I just want to go full disclosure here. [821.9s] I look over to Flynn Newar [825.4s] just to get like the, like, [829.9s] Lady Silverhand says, [831.7s] is it something of urgent concern [834.4s] that we should look into? [836.5s] I don't know, [837.3s] but he seems like the kind of guy [838.7s] who could just like pop up at any moment, you know? [841.7s] Hmm, interesting. [843.3s] It's kind of like a side plot bad guy. [846.3s] Oh, was he a side plot bad guy? [849.1s] No one knows exactly when those characters pop up. [852.9s] Okay, well, we weren't able to defeat him, [856.5s] which is really a thorn in my paw, [860.8s] but I can't remember where I was going with this. [864.3s] I seem to be the only one who doesn't like this, [866.3s] so I'll just keep quiet over here. [869.1s] Okay, good, good. [870.5s] Looks to you, he's like, [871.3s] I still don't like you. [872.5s] I pat his thigh. [875.7s] Inner thigh. [877.2s] Oh my goodness. [879.4s] He gives you a wink and a nod. [880.9s] Oh, what about the thumbs up? [883.8s] No thumbs up. [884.7s] Oh, okay, I haven't quite reached thumbs up status yet. [887.5s] Yeah. [889.6s] You know, he's a human. [890.8s] It's a dwarf thing, obviously. [892.1s] Oh, fair enough. [893.7s] I'm confused. [894.5s] I've been flirting with so many different characters. [895.9s] Sure, yeah. [896.8s] It's just, it's kind of been. [898.4s] So, sorry, Ruthatar was killed? [901.5s] No, we fought him, but he managed to get away. [905.3s] Wounded severely. [907.8s] Well, that is something. [909.9s] It takes dragons quite a while to recuperate. [915.0s] So, maybe he will be out of the fight [917.2s] for long enough to help us. [920.4s] So, the Arcane Brotherhood is working with us. [926.0s] You mentioned there's a rogue wizard and Varam. [932.5s] Where did you find Varam and? [934.9s] Varam had lost his mask, and he was. [941.5s] His white dragon mask. [942.7s] And he was trying to find it, and we found him first. [947.1s] Did you procure ways of obtaining his mask? [952.2s] No, it's back in possession of the cult. [957.9s] So, that is why he is helping us, I take it. [960.5s] Yeah, he's dead if he goes back to them, so. [963.6s] Oh, hey, here's a fun fact. [965.9s] This is how I talk in council meetings. [968.1s] Hey, fun fact. [970.3s] Time for one of your Lara's patented fun facts. [972.8s] Yeah, quick sound a little bitchier about it. [975.9s] Yeah, totally. [978.4s] The cult has all of the things they've been collecting, [982.1s] all the treasures in the Well of the Dragon? [986.6s] Nope, it's an extinct volcano, like real super villains. [991.0s] That's right, the Well of the Dragons. [993.5s] Did you get, obviously Varam has given this information, [997.1s] but for the council, did you get the location of this? [1001.7s] The northern end of the Sunset Mountains. [1004.7s] And that is where they are held up. [1007.1s] Did you get any further information from Varam [1009.7s] as to how close they might be to actually bringing Tiamat? [1016.2s] He thinks they're pretty close. [1018.4s] I am wary to send troops there as of yet. [1024.4s] I feel we have more information to gain [1027.3s] before moving forward. [1030.1s] I myself have been to battle and lost many, many an ally, [1034.9s] and I don't wish that upon anybody as of right now. [1040.1s] Delaine Winterhound speaks up. [1043.0s] So about the dwarf, you brought him here. [1047.7s] He's been known to upset the natural order of things before, [1052.5s] and I feel like holding him here, [1054.3s] we might be asking for more trouble than what it's worth. [1058.4s] Is there anything that we should, [1059.5s] now that we've kind of got the information out of him, [1061.8s] is there, like, do we wanna just offer him up [1064.8s] to get him out of here, or do we wanna? [1068.6s] He could potentially be leverage, [1070.1s] why would we just give him up? [1072.5s] Well, it seems like if they're- [1074.3s] No, no, no. [1075.6s] That was a stupid idea. [1076.8s] No more talking from you. [1080.2s] I see how it is. [1082.4s] Fucking shut down. [1084.1s] Right? [1084.9s] Why don't we take him for a reconnaissance mission? [1088.3s] He'll be able to show us exactly where to go, [1091.9s] potentially help mitigate pitfalls, [1096.7s] and at the very least, [1098.9s] offer him up as bait or distraction. [1101.1s] You don't think he could double cross you [1103.1s] and send you to the wolves, so to speak? [1106.5s] You don't think that I could turn into a wolf [1108.3s] and just tear him from limb to limb? [1111.1s] She raises a good point. [1113.7s] I like you. [1114.6s] You're good. [1116.4s] All right. [1118.0s] So you wanna go on a reconnaissance mission, [1119.6s] is that what you're saying? [1120.4s] Where are you going on a reconnaissance mission? [1121.8s] Well, Silver Lady just kinda made it seem like [1124.2s] things weren't ready and we needed more information. [1126.9s] I was reading between the lines, [1128.3s] I see what she's saying. [1129.5s] Fair enough. [1130.3s] Lady Silverhand says, you have gained much. [1133.9s] Is there anybody else that you swayed to our side [1136.2s] while you were out there? [1137.2s] Well, we saved Mirabar. [1138.7s] We saved Little Rock. [1140.1s] We saved... [1142.3s] Oh, what about the Army of Mirabar? [1145.5s] Axe of Mirabar. [1147.2s] The Axe of Mirabar. [1148.4s] The Axe of Mirabar has been reluctant [1151.3s] to join the council, [1152.7s] but they are an astounding force [1155.8s] that if they are on our side, [1157.1s] then that is another plus in our column. [1160.1s] Well, they're about as half as outstanding [1163.3s] as they were before. [1164.7s] How so? [1165.9s] Well, remember that Primsbane guy we were mentioning? [1169.1s] He kinda did a number on their army. [1171.0s] Oh. [1172.8s] Well. [1173.7s] But they still have a lot of troops, [1174.5s] so that's good. [1175.8s] That is good. [1177.1s] And babies are born every day. [1179.9s] This is true. [1181.3s] Takes a while for dwarves to age, [1183.0s] but that is okay. [1184.7s] The more numbers we have, [1186.2s] the better, is what I say. [1188.5s] We'll suit up every baby. [1191.4s] It'll be an adorable army. [1193.5s] Not effective. [1194.3s] This baby dwarf army sounds pretty awesome. [1196.5s] Very cute. [1197.7s] Very cute. [1198.5s] They'll only be as high as your knees, [1199.9s] but they will be vicious. [1201.6s] Last time we were talking to this council, [1204.6s] we were supposed to find Macoth. [1208.5s] Did it? [1209.3s] You're welcome. [1210.7s] We were supposed to find Varam the White. [1213.0s] Did it? [1214.7s] We freed Little Rock. [1216.1s] I'm looking at my list, you guys, [1217.5s] of things from one year ago [1219.1s] that we were supposed to accomplish. [1220.9s] Very exciting. [1222.8s] And then the other thing is [1225.5s] that the worm-speaker Nereveen [1228.5s] is in a misty forest stronghold. [1231.8s] We ever track that guy down? [1233.1s] Maybe we should do that. [1234.5s] King Melandrich says, [1236.1s] what was that name? [1239.5s] God. [1240.7s] Worm-speaker? [1241.7s] Nerenveen. [1243.9s] Nerenveen. [1245.1s] It's not possible. [1247.2s] Well, it's on our to-do list. [1249.1s] It's in the other info section. [1253.0s] Flips the page. [1255.1s] It's down in a footnote. [1256.9s] He says, [1258.6s] no, Nerenveen is my son. [1265.9s] And he's been lost for many, many years now. [1271.1s] We find things. [1272.4s] We're the finders. [1273.6s] That's pretty good. [1275.2s] I mean, it's better than what we currently have, [1276.9s] which is nothing. [1278.3s] Delayne speaks up and he says, [1281.4s] you said the misty forest is where this Nerenveen is. [1285.3s] That's where he was last seen, yep. [1287.4s] As I've been trying to tell King Melandrich here, [1291.3s] he says, oh, fuck off. [1295.5s] Anyway, I have [1299.3s] heard and have been getting reports [1302.7s] that there have been many recent dragon attacks [1305.4s] in the misty forest. [1307.8s] This could be connected to what you have found, [1310.9s] might not be, [1312.5s] but if this Nerenveen, son of King Melandrich, [1317.2s] fuck you. [1320.1s] Maybe he's working for the cult now. [1322.9s] That's fucking impossible. [1324.9s] King Melandrich tells me that it has been taken care of. [1328.9s] The elves have increased their patrols [1331.5s] and fortified their positions, [1333.3s] but as I asked him, [1336.0s] he has not heard from his patrols in quite a while. [1340.7s] I'm sorry, can King Melandrich speak for himself? [1345.7s] I don't wish to, my dear. [1347.5s] Oh, this man speaks for you? [1349.9s] This man is a fucking idiot. [1353.1s] Do you want us to find your son or not? [1356.6s] If it is my son, he's... [1359.2s] Do you believe your son is working [1362.0s] for the cult of the dragon? [1363.1s] That's not possible. [1364.7s] Why? That's not possible. [1365.9s] That's not how I raised him. [1367.3s] Oh, doesn't count. [1369.5s] Anyways, with all due respect here, [1372.6s] he hasn't heard from his outposts in quite a while, [1376.3s] which means that these dragon attacks [1378.2s] could have taken out large elven villages. [1382.8s] He himself hasn't been back there in a while. [1386.1s] Oh, Thea doesn't feel good about this. [1388.2s] She's all like, my people. [1390.6s] Delaine says, [1391.6s] But with more emotion. [1392.5s] I'm willing to lead a team there. [1395.5s] I know the area. [1397.7s] I just need support in case his reports aren't true. [1403.3s] I kind of like, like a group huddle. [1407.5s] Come here, come here. [1409.1s] And then we whisper loudly and like, [1411.0s] shh, wha, wha, wha, wha, wha, wha, wha, wha, wha. [1414.0s] And then we say, we'll do it. [1416.5s] I don't know, I'm speaking for everybody. [1418.9s] Of course we'll do it, right? [1421.5s] Oh yeah, we got this. [1423.9s] This is what we do. [1424.8s] We're trying to find the people [1426.4s] running the cult of the dragon. [1427.7s] And if that's our next clue [1429.4s] as to where one is going to be, [1431.6s] we may as well go. [1432.5s] Maybe we can save some lives while we're there. [1435.0s] Maybe we can kill a dragon while we're there. [1438.1s] Ooh, that excites Thea. [1440.5s] Lady Silverhand says, [1441.9s] Well, add it to your quest log. [1445.1s] Because this is, this is happening now. [1447.9s] Delaine Winterhound will lead a team [1451.5s] of you investigators to the Misty Forest, [1456.0s] where hopefully King MAlydindrich is true [1459.4s] in that his cities are fine and everything is good. [1463.7s] If not, you may find the next step we are looking for. [1468.7s] Granthas should stay here, I think. [1470.5s] What the fuck, we got the airship. [1473.2s] He does have the airship. [1475.1s] I can get us there, look at his flip. [1477.0s] Yeah, let's not, let's not spend like, [1479.7s] like three months traveling. [1481.1s] I spoke in haste. [1482.3s] We'll take the airship. [1483.5s] He can stay on the airship. [1485.7s] He probably should. [1487.0s] Perfect. [1488.2s] We're also whispering in front of Granthas. [1491.2s] Definitely. [1492.0s] I can hear you, you know? [1493.5s] I mean, I gotta make, okay, I'll go. [1495.4s] What'll happen is I'll drop you in the Misty Forest. [1499.3s] I gotta go make a swing by some frog places [1501.7s] with an old buddy of mine. [1503.1s] We'll get to that later. [1506.3s] But yeah, it'll be fine. [1508.1s] You guys do what you gotta do [1510.3s] and then I'll come back and swing, [1511.6s] pick you up, lickety split. [1512.9s] We'll be back here, Bob's your uncle. [1514.7s] I put a finger to his lips and I go, shh, shh, shh. [1518.7s] We will go to the Misty Forest. [1521.1s] Lady Silverhand says, wonderful. [1525.5s] Well, it seems we have determined our next step. [1527.4s] Lord Neverember had one more piece [1531.5s] that we needed to discuss before we go. [1533.7s] Lord Neverember stands up and says, [1537.1s] thank you, Lady Silverhand. [1538.7s] I've been approached by [1541.5s] and sent a representative from the Metallic Dragons. [1545.6s] This is Elia. [1547.7s] Elia, please inform the council [1550.7s] of the Metallic Dragons' request. [1553.5s] I look over at Flint and I go, [1555.5s] are they talking robot dragons? [1558.7s] You know the Metallic Dragons are dragons. [1561.8s] They are just metallic in color. [1563.3s] They're the gold, silver type dragons [1567.6s] and they always lean on the good side of the spectrum. [1572.3s] Whereas the Chromatic Dragons [1573.9s] lean on the evil side of the spectrum. [1576.3s] Elia stands up and says, thank you. [1580.1s] Everybody feels very drawn to her, [1582.3s] like I mentioned before. [1584.5s] When the Cult of the Dragon sounded the dracon, [1588.6s] as you know, its tremors were felt across the north. [1593.7s] Many metallic dragons began to investigate what it meant [1598.1s] and gather information on the cult. [1602.1s] One of those dragons, Protanther, [1605.3s] invoked an ancient draconic rite of council [1610.4s] summoning ambassadors from among the Metallic Dragons. [1613.8s] The council has determined what they want [1616.0s] and what the council here wants [1617.8s] have overlapping similarities in, [1620.7s] of course, stopping the rise of Tiamat. [1624.1s] And they wish for a representative to be sent [1627.8s] to their council meeting in the Nether Mountains [1631.3s] to find out how, if at all, you can help each other. [1635.1s] She looks to Lady Silverhand and she speaks. [1638.2s] Having such an alliance would be [1641.6s] immensely powerful in our fight. [1644.4s] Is this something that you, four, [1647.6s] she looks to Thea, three, [1650.9s] if Grancis has somewhere else to be? [1654.5s] He does, I'm sure he does. [1656.0s] He's a busy guy. [1656.8s] Can take on and handle the negotiations [1659.0s] with the Metallic Dragons? [1660.4s] Are we being asked to be in two places at once? [1662.5s] Elia says the council meeting will be held [1665.9s] when you get to it. [1668.1s] If there are matters that need to be taken care of [1670.1s] before that, with the Misty Forest, [1673.6s] they would be understanding in that. [1675.9s] They do not wish to wait much longer, though. [1678.9s] Well, it only takes us about four months [1681.5s] to accomplish a goal. [1684.7s] Totally. [1686.5s] What do we think? [1687.7s] I mean, it just sounds like [1689.6s] having more allies is a good thing. [1691.7s] That you know the Metallic Dragons [1693.1s] to be some of the wisest and smartest creatures [1699.2s] in the land. [1700.8s] I would like to meet those creatures. [1702.4s] I don't know about you, Nularaaaa. [1704.1s] I think it is a good idea for the alliance. [1707.7s] I think we are not diplomats [1713.9s] and this will not play to our strengths. [1717.5s] However, I'm willing to go [1719.0s] if that's what the council wants. [1720.8s] I think as long as we can properly articulate [1725.2s] the side in which that we are both on, [1729.1s] I think it will be fine. [1730.6s] I think we are all on the same team. [1733.2s] What exactly are they looking for? [1734.9s] Are they just looking for an amicable show of faith? [1740.5s] I have only been sent to ask for a representative. [1743.9s] Okay, so they just want to chit chat. [1745.3s] I say we go. [1746.4s] Sure. Of course. [1747.6s] Grant just says, [1748.5s] I can make sure that I've done my thing [1749.9s] before you guys go there and we can, [1752.5s] I've talked to lots of dragons before. [1755.4s] You speak Draconic. [1757.9s] Well, I mean, they speak common too. [1761.2s] Very common. [1764.9s] Look, they were yummy mashed potatoes. [1768.3s] Just don't get me started. [1770.4s] Yes, we will go. [1771.3s] I got distracted of our common talk. [1773.1s] You know, the star of John Wick 2. [1776.2s] Of course, of course. [1778.6s] He's an underrated actor. [1780.9s] Shut up. [1781.7s] Been watching him in Hell on Wheels. [1782.9s] He is amazing. [1785.0s] He's pretty good, pretty good. [1786.5s] Sounds like we got a new list of tasks. [1788.5s] Yes, we are in agreement. [1790.6s] Wonderful. [1791.5s] So you shall head with Delaine Winterhound [1795.2s] to the Misty Forest [1796.6s] and then go to the Nether Mountains [1799.8s] and meet with the Metallic Dragons. [1802.3s] Promptly witch reporting back here [1804.7s] as to findings of both. [1806.1s] Sorry, what do you mean by promptly? [1808.1s] We don't do anything promptly. [1809.3s] As quickly as possible. [1811.5s] As time, of course, is of the essence. [1815.2s] Well, you have much to prepare for. [1817.7s] I will dismiss you from the meeting [1821.5s] unless there's anything else [1822.9s] you require from us before you leave. [1825.7s] Just standard provisions. [1827.8s] Definitely could use some more healing potions. [1830.9s] Yeah, that'd probably be good. [1832.1s] Yes, we can supply you with all the things you need. [1836.7s] As many healing potions as your airship can carry [1840.8s] and it shall be so. [1842.3s] Lady Silverhand dismisses you [1844.5s] and then carries on with the meeting [1846.1s] and you hear as you, [1847.6s] are you staying, are you going? [1848.9s] What's happening? [1849.7s] I think we should go. [1850.9s] Yeah, great. [1851.8s] We're terrible at interacting with things. [1853.6s] Let's on to action. [1856.2s] You hear kind of the general conversation [1860.6s] as you are exiting the room [1863.1s] is just different heads of regions [1868.1s] talking about the different things [1870.3s] that the cult is doing in their countries, [1872.6s] in their realms. [1874.4s] And it sounds like it's not looking very good. [1879.0s] The cults have been sacking cities [1882.0s] and there's not a lot of people anymore [1886.0s] fighting back against them in a lot of these areas [1889.6s] that they are hitting. [1890.5s] They're hitting a lot of smaller towns. [1892.6s] Again, taking treasures [1894.4s] and just general murdering of people. [1898.1s] Well, that's not good. [1904.7s] Well, hello there. [1905.6s] I'm your dungeon master, Russ More. [1907.3s] Thank you for joining us [1908.3s] for episode 30 of Dumbgeons and Dragons. [1910.9s] Can you believe it? [1911.8s] 30 episodes titled A Council Meeting in Waterdeep. [1915.4s] Wanna take a moment just to say thank you [1917.5s] for joining us for these 30 episodes [1920.1s] or if this is your first episode, thank you as well. [1922.5s] The show of support from our listeners [1924.2s] and other podcasters that we've received [1925.9s] over the last year has been amazing [1927.9s] and it's with your support [1929.5s] that we keep making each episode better. [1932.2s] The next episode will be out January 31st [1934.1s] and this next episode coming up [1935.8s] will feature our very first guest star, DM Doc [1938.9s] from the Bros and Dragons podcast. [1940.8s] Go check out his podcast [1942.3s] and give him some love over there. [1944.1s] But let's get back to the episode [1945.7s] and set forth on the next adventure. [1948.3s] Have a great couple of weeks [1949.3s] and we'll talk soon. [1954.0s] What you doing? [1954.8s] Gathering supplies, throwing them on the airship, [1958.1s] punching Grancis in the stomach. [1960.8s] Hoi! [1963.5s] How many healing potions [1967.2s] am I actually updating my inventory to include? [1970.3s] Yeah, ditto. [1972.5s] Like, I'll give you, [1975.5s] I'll give you, [1977.9s] how many did you have last night? [1978.9s] You started to say 50, did you say 50? [1980.9s] I was gonna say four. [1982.9s] I was gonna say four. [1984.2s] Four each? [1985.4s] Yeah. [1986.2s] Okay. [1987.8s] It's not as good as 50, [1989.1s] but I'll take four because I had a zero. [1992.2s] They're gonna give you each one rare [1998.2s] and three uncommons. [2001.0s] So the one rare is an eight d four plus eight [2005.1s] and the uncommons are four d four plus four. [2009.5s] Uh oh, this means fights are gonna get real hard, guys. [2012.3s] Yeah, so you gather your health potions [2014.6s] and you head to the airship [2016.6s] and there is a new person there. [2019.1s] First you get word from a representative from the council [2023.0s] that Delaine Winterhound will be heading out on foot. [2027.7s] Oh God, it's gonna take him forever to get there. [2029.7s] I'm pissed about it because I really, [2031.9s] I thought we hit it off. [2033.4s] Why is he going on foot? [2034.9s] He's a man of the ground and of the wild. [2038.9s] And approximately how long will it take him [2040.7s] to get there on foot? [2041.7s] Oh, not long. [2042.9s] How long will it take us to get there by air? [2045.1s] Less than long. [2046.9s] Oh my God, you're so specific. [2051.1s] It's all the units of time you've got to lose. [2053.3s] Don't worry about it. [2054.2s] Story things, we'll just figure it out. [2057.0s] Okay. [2058.1s] So yeah, he will be heading out on foot with his wolf [2062.0s] and he will be meeting you at the rendezvous point, [2065.5s] which she has left for you. [2068.3s] Right, we totally talked about it. [2069.9s] Yeah, which you totally talked about [2071.3s] and it's totally in this scroll [2074.0s] that has been handed to you. [2075.9s] Perfect. [2077.5s] And you get on board the airship [2079.3s] and there is another older man standing there. [2083.2s] Oh joy. [2086.0s] Is it Grandsass? [2087.7s] It's Francis, Francis' twin brother. [2091.4s] It's Francis and Grantsass. [2095.6s] Nope. [2096.4s] Super team. [2098.6s] Tells stupid stories, does stupid shit. [2101.9s] Grantsass comes aboard and he says, [2103.6s] yeah, no, this is my buddy. [2107.0s] He's going to help me take the frogs back. [2109.0s] I mean, after we deal with all your misty, [2111.9s] misty forest dragons and stuff. [2117.3s] You want to know his name, I take it. [2119.7s] Yep, yep. [2122.2s] Yeah, yeah, you want to know his name. [2123.0s] Hey, Thaddeus, this is my friends, [2127.7s] the, my best friend, Laura and Clint, [2133.1s] all of which are great friends. [2135.3s] This is Thaddeus, sicker, crumple. [2138.4s] I've been calling him Crandall this whole time. [2141.5s] And he says, [2142.6s] If anyone got my Simpsons reference, you're welcome. [2145.2s] Yeah, it's true, one person got it. [2147.9s] Somebody did and they were delighted. [2150.8s] And they signed up for Patreon right after. [2154.5s] I'll work more Simpsons references into my games, [2156.8s] that idea. [2157.7s] He looks at you and he's like, [2160.8s] judging by the look on your face, [2163.5s] you've spent a little time with Grantsass. [2165.5s] Yeah. [2168.3s] Just a little bit. [2170.2s] How do you? [2171.0s] Yeah, the only. [2173.4s] Seems like it's been forever. [2175.0s] I was trying to talk to you. [2177.1s] Go for it. [2178.8s] How do you know Grantsass, Thaddeus? [2181.3s] Oh, we go, we go way back. [2182.9s] We were, we were in the magic military a long time ago. [2187.7s] I was his, his guy who made sure he didn't die. [2193.2s] Oh, he only had one of those guys? [2195.1s] Seems like that'd be like a full-time five person job. [2198.6s] Why we don't work together anymore. [2202.5s] Anyways, yeah, we've been on a lot of excursions, [2205.3s] including this frog excursion, [2206.8s] which I'm being roped back into [2209.5s] to help them bring thousands of frogs back down south. [2214.5s] I'm sorry, are these frogs currently on the airship? [2218.1s] Yeah, oh yeah, they're down below. [2220.3s] They're not big, he kept them small. [2222.1s] He's gonna make them bigger. [2223.5s] Yeah, no, we remember. [2225.7s] Oh boy. [2227.5s] All right, okay, I mean, there's just some frogs. [2230.2s] Yeah, we may or may not have been kidnapped [2231.9s] by these frogs before. [2233.6s] Anyway, does this not seem like a bad idea [2236.0s] to anyone else to have thousands of frogs [2238.7s] in the bottom of the airship on the way to a mission? [2243.0s] Oh, don't worry about it, guys. [2244.3s] I got them all locked up there. [2247.2s] They're in, and we talked about it. [2249.0s] You know, ribbit, ribbit, frog, frog. [2251.7s] And we came to a conclusion [2255.3s] that they just wanna be back home. [2257.0s] Okay, but do you swear you're not gonna mess with them? [2261.5s] You're not gonna shrink anything? [2263.9s] Swear on your mashed potatoes. [2267.1s] Swear on your airship you are not going to shrink [2270.3s] or embiggen anything while we are on this ship [2274.3s] and we are with you. [2276.3s] Yes, sorry. [2277.2s] I swear on my airship and my mashed potatoes [2282.1s] and my pancakes that I will not shrink in [2285.4s] or embiggen anything on the airship while we are traveling. [2291.7s] Excellent use of embiggen, guys. [2294.6s] Yeah, I'm loving this. [2298.2s] It's a perfectly Cromulan word. [2300.2s] Thaddeus is, he's an older human male [2303.7s] who is about, just about six feet. [2308.5s] He looks like he's in his late 70s. [2312.5s] Wrinkled, sun-worn skin and long flowing white hair. [2317.1s] Not like the crazy hair of Grancis. [2320.2s] He looks to Grancis and says, [2323.1s] once this is done, we're done, dude. [2325.6s] Like, seriously. [2327.8s] Dude. Yeah, yeah. [2329.1s] He's an old hippie, I like it. [2330.7s] It's an old hippie. [2332.9s] Yeah, I got it. [2333.9s] Okay, let's just, you know, one last, [2336.3s] one last, one last kick at the can. [2341.6s] And he goes and fires up the airship [2346.4s] and you guys start flying off towards the misty forest. [2350.9s] What are you guys doing on the airship? [2353.8s] Playing that dice game? [2355.4s] Oh, yeah. [2357.3s] I roll two sticks, a half a heart, [2362.7s] and a side nostril. [2364.1s] Nobody knows what you're talking about. [2366.2s] You win. [2368.8s] This is like the game of cups. [2370.5s] You have a full cup. [2371.6s] For pretty much a solid day, [2373.4s] just play this dice game. [2376.2s] Grancis had the dice game, that's what he had, yeah. [2379.3s] Here, guys, I learned this when I was on the water ship. [2384.2s] Here, you might be able to play it. [2387.4s] It's pretty intense, though. [2389.4s] A lot of rules. [2392.6s] A lot of confusing, confusing rules. [2395.1s] So you guys are traveling for about a day [2397.1s] and it's a little, it's about a day and a half flight [2400.5s] to get to the misty forest from where you are. [2403.2s] And you are suddenly in what appears [2408.2s] to be a lot of fog. [2410.1s] Grancis yells out, he's like, [2412.0s] just keep an eye out, make sure we don't dip too low [2415.2s] and clip a tree or something, you know. [2417.7s] I'm sorry, who are you talking to? [2419.2s] You guys. [2420.3s] We are to keep an eye out. [2421.8s] Yeah. [2422.9s] Aren't you driving this airship? [2425.4s] Yeah, now I'm a fucking pilot. [2427.6s] God damn it, I look out the window, [2429.3s] I'm like, I don't see anything. [2432.1s] And as you look out the window [2433.7s] and you say you don't see anything, [2435.4s] there is a burst of black flame that strikes the airship. [2440.5s] And a adult black dragon swoops overhead [2444.4s] as you begin plummeting to the ground. [2446.6s] And Grancis yells, I told you to watch out. [2450.2s] Hold on to your butts. [2451.8s] I had to pop in here at the end [2455.7s] because amidst being bickered at, [2458.0s] I forgot to mention that Thaddeus sickercrum-uple [2460.6s] is an NPC name given to us by one of our patrons, [2463.8s] Adam Farber. [2486.9s] Music in today's episode was by Kavin McLeod [2489.4s] of incompetech.filmmusic.io. [2492.4s] Karla. [2493.7s] Yep, I have some stuff. [2494.5s] I sent you guys a page. [2496.2s] Okay. [2497.0s] Uh-oh. [2497.9s] Uh-oh. [2498.7s] Y-O. [2499.5s] I'm the work. [2501.2s] I'm sorry, I didn't read it. [2506.2s] All sorts of like vocal activities going on. [2508.0s] I know, I like it. [2508.8s] And he's panicking. [2510.1s] Freeing the natural voice over there. [2511.7s] Russ just nodded, very like, [2513.4s] I can't believe you got it that fast. [2515.4s] I'm just looking through my notes and it's like, [2518.4s] I'm just looking through my notes and it's like, [2521.7s] well, there are some people we saved. [2523.6s] There are some people we saved. [2524.8s] Surely some of these people will help us [2526.9s] if we need them too. [2528.5s] I'm sorry, what accent is this? [2530.1s] I don't know. [2530.9s] I like it though. [2531.7s] It was very British at the beginning [2533.9s] and now I don't know. [2534.7s] He's just getting angry. [2535.5s] So he just, you know, you know, loses it. [2538.1s] This is Elia Stormborn. [2541.8s] Elia, please inform. [2545.5s] That's not your, that's not your real, [2547.0s] like Elia, yes, but is it Stormborn? [2549.3s] No. [2550.1s] It is? [2551.0s] No. [2551.8s] Okay. [2552.6s] I was like, I was pretty sure. [2553.5s] It's Daenerys Stormborn. [2554.7s] But you gave me a micro heart attack there. [2557.0s] I was like, what is this shit [2558.8s] you're launching on me right now, Russ More? [2561.1s] Oh yeah, this is a fucking surprise crossover. [2564.8s] Bitch, get on board. [2567.1s] I feel really bad for Russ when he talks as Grancis, [2570.3s] because the look I give him is like, [2574.3s] I'm just sitting here just looking at him like, [2576.5s] just stop talking. [2580.7s] Why, why do you exist? [2584.6s] I agree. [2585.5s] I always feel bad when I mean to Grancis [2587.3s] cause like it's Russ being Grancis. [2589.9s] So just so you know, I think you're great, Russ. [2592.8s] Grancis, it's the worst. [2595.7s] I originally designed Grancis to be super useful, [2598.9s] but then he kind of quickly became super un-useful [2602.9s] and you guys just went with it. [2604.1s] So that's what we're going with now. [2605.7s] Hey, the airship comes in real handy. [2608.9s] It does, it does. [2609.7s] He's good for that. [2610.5s] It cuts down on our time. [2612.0s] Yeah. [2612.9s] Yeah, that was the one thing that he had going for him. [2615.9s] Anyways, Dumbgeons and Dragons is a Dumb Dragons [2618.3s] production.
